23/07/2008Romania in the top of best locations for logistic facilities
According to the European Distribution Report 2008, produced by global real estate consultant Cushman & Wakefield, Romania ranks 13 out of 25 European countries offering the best locations for industrial/logistics facilities.
The overall ranking analyses the cost/benefit ratio and includes factors such as rents, labour costs, market size, proximity to key markets and population densities. Romania’s competitive factors are low rents and reduced labour costs.
Romania is crossed by three Pan-European transport corridors: corridor number IV Dresden/Nuremberg – Bucharest – Constanta – Thessaloniki – Istanbul, number VII the Danube and number IX Helsinki – Kiev – Bucharest – Odessa/Alexandropoulos.
The Report mentions that, in the period 2004-2007, Constanta harbor recorded the most spectacular growth of merchandise volume, namely 277%, followed by St Petersburg harbor in Russia with a growth of 120%. These numbers are the result of exploring the new trade routes from Asia. Romania also has a 10% proportion of freight transported by inland waterway.
