12/09/2008Romania 2008 - record economic growth
Romania registered a record GDP growth reaching 9% in the second trimester of 2008 and 8.6% in the first semester of the current year. Thus, our country registered the highest GDP level over the last 20 years.
The figures provided by Eurostat indicate that Romanian economy has increased in the period April-June 2008 six times faster than the average registered at the level of the European Union in comparison to the same period of last year, the medium advance of EU member states being of 1,6%. The difference from Slovakia, which holds the second position, is quite big, respectivly 1,7%. Furthermore, the most important economies in zero area – Germany, France and Italy have registered in the course of the second trimester of this year decreases in the GDP value in comparison to the first three month of 2008.
Romania’a advantage is not restricted to EU level, our country succeeding to get ahead of countries like USA, where the economic growth registered in the second trimister was just 0,8% superior to that of the first semester of the current year and just 2,2% bigger than the value registered in the same period of 2007, and Japan (economic growth of only one percent).
